Sejm pays tribute to Roman Rybarski

03.03.2007, 19:55

By acclamation Polish deputies paid tribute to professor Roman Rybarski shot in a German concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau 65 years ago.
Rybarski, an eminent Polish economist, a politician of National Democracy, was affiliated with the National Movement and was an active member of the National League. In 1918-1919 he was delegated to the Paris Peace Conference.

He belonged to the prestigious scientific associations such as Polish Academy of Skills and Warsaw Learned Society. He was one of the leaders in the People-National Association, Camp of Great Poland and the National Party.

During his life he wrote many scientific papers on economics. In his writings he promoted a model of the liberal economy, low taxes, inviolability of private property and harmfulness of forced social security, monopolies and concessions. He argued against running debts by the state.

After regaining Polish independence professor Rybarski co-ordinated the reforms of the Polish banking system. During the so-called Action ”AB” in May 1941 he was arrested by Nazis and deported to the concentration camp in Auschwitz where he was put do death by the firing squad for co-organising in-camp resistance.
