All-Polish Youth celebrates its 85th annniversary22.04.2007, 19:15The leadership of All-Polish Youth would like to invite on April 22nd 2007 members of the organisation as well as its supporters to come to Cracow on the occasion of its 85th birthday anniversary. The celebrations will start with a holy mass at the Mariacki Church where All-Polish Youth members will pray for their country and organisation. Then, the festivities will continue in the Congressional Centre of Academy of Agriculture where the invited guests as well as the chairman, Konrad Bonisławski are expected to take the floor. To remind briefly, the organisation was established in 1922 as a result of the unification of student circles of the interwar Poland. The founder of the organisation and its unquestioned leader, Roman Dmowski, was elected, then, an honorary chairman. Later, he was an authority the youth resorted to in moment of doubt or crisis. During the war the organisation resisted a foreign occupation by Germans and Soviets. Many young members died at an early age defending their home country. Many sacrificed themselves to save the lives of others. One of the pre-war leaders, Jan Mosdorf brutally killed by Germans in Auschwitz, helped save Jews in the camp. After WW II, the organisation suspended its operation and it was only in 1989 when it was re-established. Since then, it has upbrought many able people who are now deputies to the Seym. Now, though it disengaged from politics following the decision by the current deputy prime minister Roman Giertych (a former chairman) who wanted the organisation to “go back to its roots” and focus on education.
